Where do you go to school? The California Institute of the Arts. I am in the Character Animation BFA program. Where is it? Valencia California, just north of LA. How is it there? It's nice. Great weather, warm days cool nights, not much snow not much rain. The surrounding area is boring suburbia. You have to go down to LA to find anything interesting. But the hills surrounding Valencia are a good get away. What is the Program like? The Character animation program is a "dog-eat-dog survival type, learn though trial an error" kind of thing. You are put under amazing teachers and are given the opportunity to hear lectures by special guest professionals, and much more. The thing is you need to get in peoples faces find things out on your own and make sure you are in the front of the line. No one will do it for you, and if they do count it as a rare blessing. But all in all I doubt you can find another program that is just this awesome and enriching. Do you spend all your time doing art? No about a third of my times is spent on Critical Studies. To get a BFA you need to take so many credits of normal classes. The general classes are art bias though, which is good. They still get in the way most of the time especially the foundation ones. But on the whole it's ok. How expensive is it? Around 32 Thousand when everything is said and done, bout as bad as any other private school. It's a big deal but it is an investment that if you see it though will be very worth while. Did you get rejected from Cal Arts? Well no actually it was the only school I applied to and I got in real quick. I thank God and only God for that. It helped that I went to CSSSA before. They teach you in the ways of Cal-Arts but yeah it was still God. A lot of people are rejected. Usually you get rejected the first year and if you get everything together and get into their face on what they want likely you get in the second time. So I am told. One person I know their got in on his sixth try! So persistence is key. Do you need to do animation to Apply? No. That's the great thing. I didn't include any animation in my application. What they look for is Great life drawing. I'm interested in Cal Arts. Any tips on applying? Go to my Getting into Cal Arts Tutorial. Anything else?
